Orders to Lackland? I'm Rami — a 100% disabled Air Force and Army veteran, San Antonio realtor, and Military Relocation Professional. I help military families land on the west side with a VA loan, often before they ever set foot in Texas.
About JBSA-Lackland
Lackland is the Gateway to the Air Force — every enlisted Airman and Guardian goes through Basic Military Training here, and the base processes tens of thousands of trainees a year. If you're cadre, instructor, security forces, medical, or one of the many mission partners on base, you'll likely live on San Antonio's west or northwest side, where newer master-planned communities put you 10–30 minutes from the gates.
Neighborhoods near JBSA-Lackland
West-side living near Lackland is some of the best value in the metro — newer homes at prices that fit BAH, mostly in Northside ISD.
Alamo Ranch
The most popular landing spot for Lackland families: a large master-planned area on the far west side with newer homes, shopping, and quick access via Loop 1604 and Highway 151. Plenty of options in the mid-$200Ks to $400Ks, including new construction.
Westover Hills
Closer in than Alamo Ranch with newer construction, big-box retail, and schools used to PCS-cycle families. A strong balance of commute and amenities.
Heritage
Newer homes in the mid-$200Ks to low-$300Ks with one of the shortest family-friendly commutes to Lackland — a great value pick if you want drive time down without going bare-bones.
Valley Hi
The budget-and-speed pick right off Highway 90. Older housing stock, but you can't beat the proximity if minimizing commute and payment is the goal.
2026 San Antonio BAH rates
All JBSA installations share the San Antonio military housing area, so these rates apply at JBSA-Lackland. BAH counts as qualifying income on a VA loan — and because it's non-taxable, many lenders count it as even more.

Buy before you arrive
A huge share of military purchases happen sight-unseen. Here's how I make remote buying safe.
Live video tours
I walk every home on live video — you see what I see in real time and we open every closet, not a polished pre-recording.
Never skip the inspection
Buying remotely means the inspection is your eyes. I attend it, send you the full report, and negotiate repairs before you commit.
Close with a power of attorney
A specific POA lets your spouse or designee sign if you can't be here — your base JAG office prepares one free, and I coordinate lender approval ahead of closing.
Timed to your report date
Start 90–120 days out and a 30–45 day close lands your keys right as you arrive — I build the timeline around your orders.
Really grateful I clicked on Rami's Instagram ad and decided to go with him. I was able to purchase my brand new home, and he made the buying process super easy! Thank you, Rami!
Rami is really clear and straightforward about the entire process. He was extremely patient and answered all of my questions thoroughly. He's connected to all of the best communities no matter what part of town you want to be in, found me incentives I didn't even know I'd be qualified for. The entire move-in process was really smooth and he was by my side the entire way. Even after moving in, he reached out to make sure everything is going well.
Rami was a very professional realtor and tough negotiator while searching for our home in San Antonio. He worked our price down by 8 grand and even convinced them to throw in a fridge. We are a military couple navigating the buying process all the way from Maryland, and he had no problem bridging the distance for us. He even picked up the keys for us after closing since we weren't in town yet. You can't go wrong with this realtor!
